The Hario V60 is not just any funnel, but a carefully designed coffee brewing tool that brings out the best flavors in coffee. The Hario V60 funnel is cone-shaped, has spiral ridges on the inside, and features one large hole at the bottom.
Because the funnel and the paper filter used in it are cone-shaped, the coffee placed inside forms a thicker layer than in a fan-shaped funnel. The water also flows toward the center, meaning it stays in contact with the coffee longer, resulting in better extraction. The spiral interior guides the flow of water, while the ridges at the same time give the coffee room to expand and allow excess air to escape. The tip of the filter paper protrudes through the hole at the bottom of the funnel, and the coffee drips from this tip. Thanks to the larger hole, you can control the flow rate of the water through the coffee yourself, thus influencing the flavor.
Brewing Instructions
- Place the coffee in the funnel and shake it slightly to level the grounds.
- Slowly pour a small amount of 92–96°C water over the coffee. Let it drip for 30 seconds.
- Pour hot water over the coffee in a circular motion, avoiding pouring water directly onto the filter paper. Brew the coffee for a total of about 3 minutes.
